     Sofia C. Medina, 74, of Pekin, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at Washington Christian Village.

     Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011, at Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue in Peoria, with the Rev. Dena M. Fuller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

     Sofia was born in Chihuahua, MX on November 15, 1936, a daughter of Manuel and Maria (Mendoza) Chavez. She married Leonard C. Medina on August 23, 1958 in Chillicothe. They were later divorced.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leopoldo and Eufracio Chavez, and two sisters, Lydia Chavez Ortega and Elida Chavez Gonzales.

     Sofia is survived by her daughter, Cris “Tina” Medina of Dunlap; son, Ruben Medina of Peoria; brother, Oscar (Rosie) Chavez of Pasadena, CA; and sister, Maria Elena (Charles) Yamshak of Newhall, CA.

     She loved Thanksgiving and enjoyed dancing, cooking, knitting, crocheting, watching Los Angeles Dodgers’ baseball, collecting mugs, eating at the Olive Garden and visiting Ft. Wayne, IN. She also enjoyed listening to Boleros music, Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Pepe Aguilar.

     Memorial contributions may be made in Sofia’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.

     Immediately following the services, the family will host a dinner, provided by River of Life Church, at Avanti’s Restaurant, 8517 N. Knoxville Avenue, in Peoria.
